A Day Out in the Desert  

An excursion in the Dubai desert is, in my opinion, one of the best activities to do if you are around here. 

My visit to Dubai, a city I explored on my return from the legendary trip to Australia. In this post I want 

to tell you more about the wonderful day I spent in the Dubai desert. To begin with, I must confess that, 

although I visited the 5 continents, I had never been in a desert of sand. During the trip to Chile, I visited 

the high-altitude desert of the Atacama, a magnificent and unique lunar landscape, but it is not a desert 

of sand. So, finding myself in Dubai, I could not miss this opportunity.

Let the Desert Safari Dubai Begin  

Around 3 pm our guide, a lovely guy, arrives to pick us up directly at the hotel with a 7-seater SUV. 

Departure and return times vary depending on the time of sunset. We head towards the nature reserve, 

which is about an hour's drive from the city. The Dubai Desert nature reserve was established in 2003, 

extends for 200 square kilometers, and has the aim of preserving the biodiversity of this area. 

Before entering the nature reserve, we stop at a meeting point where we join all the other Arabian 

Adventure vehicles. The driver deflates the tires a little to be able to drive through the dunes, in fact, the 

first part of the tour involves driving in the desert dunes, very funny!  

As we cross the desert, we arrive at an oasis where many antelopes quench their thirst and take 

advantage of some shade. He thinks that here the temperature can reach 48 degrees, the animals and 

the rare plants have learned to survive in this extreme environment.

After half an hour of evolution in the dunes, we finally reach the panoramic point where we can watch 

the sunset in the desert. An ocher and orange sand sea stretches before us, a landscape that changes 

every day depending on the wind, an endless expanse of sand, a great emotion in front of a scene that I 

meet for the first time. And a thought that immediately appears in my mind, 

how can desert men not get lost in this sea of ​​sand without reference points? 

Enchanted by so much beauty, we take a thousand photographs, can't miss the photo of the jump which, 

due to an optical effect, makes a 10 cm jump seem higher. 

In-Camp Entertainments  

After sunset we are ready to reach the Berber camp where we will dine. The camp, however, ad hoc built 

for tourists, is, in any case, evocative and well reproduces the camp of the nomadic peoples of the 

desert: carpets, cushions and laid tables. Before dinner, those who wish can devote themselves to some 

activities such as a camel trekking dubai, a photo with typical costumes or simply relax with a tea 

accompanied by dates. The self-service dinner is very rich with appetizers, meat dishes but also possible 

vegetarian options in typical Arabic style. 

Meanwhile, the night has fallen, and the desert sky is illuminated with so many stars. To end the 

pleasant evening a belly dancer delights us with this fascinating traditional dance. We are so ready to 

return to the city, where the driver takes us back to the hotel. 

Although I normally do not get excited about organized and too touristic excursions, I can tell you that in 

this case, I enjoyed it, I liked everything, nature, sunset, dinner, it was an experience that I recommend 

and that I would gladly repeat.
